GRANTIMPACT FAQ

What is GRANTIMPACT good for?

THe GRANTIMPACT course strengthens universal communications skills that maximize the outcomes of projects and organizations.

May I use my enrollment code to enroll more than just one person at my organization?

Up to five individuals within your organization may use the code to enroll and create accounts. Please know that the total amount of one-on-one communications coaching is limited.

What kind of issues can I receive one-on-one coaching for?

You can receive feedback by phone or video on anything related to communications, including draft key messages, draft communications or media outreach plans, and draft news releases.

What does the one-on-one coaching not cover?

GRANTIMPACT coaching is designed to act as a sounding board, with you taking the first stab (at key messages, a news release or a communications plan), and your GRANTIMPACT coach providing feedback based on which you can make improvements.

How do I request one-on-one coaching?

To request feedback on a communications matter, simply click the blue HELP button while logged into your account. GRANTIMPACT uses a helpdesk system that will issue you a support ticket with a number. You have the ability to add to it and review its status by email or online from within your account. When you open a ticket, a GRANTIMPACT coach will be in touch with you within 24 hours on business days to connect by phone or video-skype.

The GRANTIMPACT course consists of ten video modules that are between five to ten minutes long. The course duration will also depend on how much time you take to interact with GRANTIMPACT coaches.

Can I use GRANTIMPACT coaching after I have received my course certificate of completion?

You can log into your account and schedule a coaching session after receiving your course certificate of completion if you have not yet used up your coaching time allotment.

What does the GRANTIMPACT course entail?

The course consists of brief video tutorials on strategic communications skills such as messaging, creating a communications plan and conducting fundraising communications. The tutorials are similar in style to the screencasts used by Khan Academy, the online education site. After completing each video module, course participants receive an email with a lesson summary, resource links, messaging templates, book recommendations and step-by-step worksheets. The goal of the course is to share best practices in a highly efficient way while respecting the time constraints of course participants, and focusing on information that can make a difference in a project’s outcome.

How much does GRANTIMPACT cost for a nonprofit if used independently of a grantmaker?

To learn more about the cost of enrolling in GRANTIMPACT, please send an email to help@grantimpact.org.

How much time do I have to complete the course?

You can complete the course at your own pace.

What should I do if I feel I’m too experienced in terms of communications to take such a course?

If you are a senior communications person who is already very experienced, we recommend you enroll a more junior member of your team who might stand to profit more. He or she could also report back to you just in case the course includes skills that are not in your organization’s toolkit yet and might be useful after all (we believe there is a good chance for that).

If I am enrolled through a grantmaker, will they know whether or not I complete the course?

GRANTIMPACT shares usage data with grantmakers to measure the effectiveness of its online course.

How can I enroll, if I do not have a sponsoring grantmaker?

To enroll independently of a grantmaker, please send an email to help@grantimpact.org.

Who is behind GRANTIMPACT?

GRANTIMPACT was created by a former vice president of communication with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Marc Fest.
